The Breakers Getting A Face Lift

LONG BEACH, CA – Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, part of hospitality group Accor, in partnership with Long Beach-based investment and development group Pacific6 is redeveloping the iconic Breakers Hotel in Long Beach, California. A timeless feature of the Long Beach skyline, Fairmont The Breakers, Long Beach is an iconic building.

Originally opened in the roaring twenties as a lavish hotel on the waterfront, The Breakers was a sought-after destination for celebrities and dignitaries, including Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant, Babe Ruth and Clark Gable, among other Hollywood stars. The historic property is currently undergoing a significant restoration and redevelopment, and is slated to reopen in 2023 as Long Beach’s first luxury boutique hotel.

The reimagined Fairmont The Breakers, Long Beach will feature high-end accommodations and amenities, including 185 boutique hotel rooms and suites; a rooftop pool and terrace overlooking the Terrace Theater Plaza; an open-air rooftop lounge and bar with 360-degree views of the Pacific Ocean and Los Angeles basin; a lavish two-story spa, wellness and fitness center; a live jazz club and music lounge; and more than 12,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting and function space. The hotel’s culinary program will include five innovative food & beverage venues, including the reopening of the famed Sky Room restaurant.

Cambria Hotels Expands To Denver

ROCKVILLE, MD – Cambria Hotels, an upscale brand franchised by Choice Hotels International, continues its nationwide expansion with the groundbreaking of the Cambria Hotel Denver Downtown RiNo. Expected to open in December 2023, the seven-story, 153-room Cambria will be the brand’s second hotel in the Colorado capital joining Cambria Hotel Denver International Airport when it debuts and adds to Cambria’s growing portfolio of properties in travelers’ urban destinations.

The future Cambria will be ideally situated in the heart of Denver’s River North (RiNo) Arts District, a vibrant neighborhood favored by locals and visitors alike for its abundant restaurants, breweries, art galleries and music venues. In addition to easy access to other popular Denver attractions, including the nearby Union Station neighborhood and the Denver Pro Sports Complex—home to the city’s professional football, hockey, and basketball teams, the Cambria Hotel Denver Downtown RiNo positions modern travelers minutes from the city’s central business district and the Colorado Convention Center.

Marriott Starts Construction On Resort And Convention Center

CHULA VISTA, CA – Marriott International, Inc. recently started construction on the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center (the Gaylord Pacific). Officials held a ceremony at the 500+ acre Chula Vista Bayfront, site of the anticipated 1.8 million-square-foot Gaylord Pacific.

The event was attended by the Gaylord Pacific’s developers RIDA Development Corporation (RIDA Development) and Ares Management (Ares), finance partners, officials from the City of Chula, Port of San Diego, and State of California, plus Marriott executives, group customers, and other project supporters.

“We are thrilled to announce the growth of the Gaylord Hotels brand with the addition of the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center,” said Anthony Capuano, CEO, Marriott International. “Adding a West Coast group destination of this scale and quality to Marriott’s portfolio will provide our customers the exceptional meetings and events service and design that the Gaylord Hotels brand is known for in a highly desired, premier Southern California location.”

Marriott International will manage the resort and convention center under a long-term management agreement. Russ Mitchell, most recently director of Sales and Marketing at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, will serve as the director of Sales and Marketing for the Gaylord Pacific and will lead a team with the goal of pre-booking more than 1.5 million room nights prior to opening.

The Gaylord Pacific is anticipated to have 1,600 hotel rooms, including 89 spacious suites with 12 Presidential suites. The project is expected to welcome its first guests in the summer 2025 and to serve as a key component of the Chula Vista Bayfront, located in Chula Vista and within close proximity to San Diego. The resort will offer 360-degree views with San Diego Bay to the west and Chula Vista Marina to the south providing unobstructed views across the bay and on to the Pacific Ocean.
